Noizezz musicians filters tested

Noizezz musicians filters tested

For a number of weeks I’m now testing the prototypes of the musicians filters of the Noizezz.
They have convinced me in every way.

I’m working as an audio-engineer in several studio’s in the Netherlands. Been a DJ for 20 years, so my hearing means everything to me.

That’s why I, even in the early days, always use hearing protection. I’ve started with cotton balls, later disposable plugs and since 8 years costume made hearing protection.
For musicians there’s no so much different brands of types available. Most labs use the same filters, but give them different names. The brand I used for all those years has a flat response, but for my ears and perception it’s not really flat. There is bit too much attenuation in the mid/high frequency range around 8 kHz, this means that f.i. that the high hats sounds muffled. On the other hand is the kick not punchy anymore, so in the lower frequencies it doing something strange. When you know it, you can built up your reference, as you will do with new speakers.
But my sets last for about a year (normal people can use them for 2 years). Every year I have to build up a new reference, which costs me about 6 to 8 weeks.

For that reason I was not so keen on trying something new, but I just had my new costumes ready when the Noizezz filters came along. They have 2 types; around 14 dB and around 20 dB.
They state that this response is really flat, and shown me curves from 63 Hz up to 16.000 Hz.
All the other guys could only show we frequency response curves up to 8.000 Hz!

OK, all tech talk, then comes the test, first without hearing protection.
Listening to the master of a new track for a client.
Then with the Noizezz 14 dB, the same track
I fell right out of my chair; punchy kicks, sparkling high hats, strings that sound like strings (not the synth stuff!). It only attenuates, but does not change anything to the sound image of the track. The master sounds as it should be.
After that, I tried my own custom made. The sound difference made me shiver, my reference for these made that I could reason the sound, not evaluate.

Then it was time for a big test; a live set at a party in Holland. I only took the Noizezz with 20 dB with me. The monitor was good, not too loud, sounded great. Tweaking the filters knobs usually makes my left ear ring. This time; no problem.

For my ears (and protections of my hearing) I’ve made my choise:
Noizezz musicians

Unfortunately I had too hand them in for testing purposes, but I will be the first to buy the Noizezz musician filters.
