Earpieces custom-made
An earpiece connects the hearing aid to the ear. A well-made earpiece is comfortable to wear, is easy to place
into and remove from the ear, and ensures optimal transfer of sound energy from the hearing aid to the ear.
Every ear is unique, just like a fingerprint. That’s why manufacturing earpieces is precision work.
Earpieces have three functions:
- linking the connection on the hearing aid to the auditory channel, i.e. making a connection;
- closing off the auditory channel in order to guarantee amplification;
- controlling the sound (via the sound channel and the ventilation channel).
The earpiece consists of a body that provides a robust connection in the ear. The auricle can be completely filled
(closed earpiece) or mostly open (open earpiece). A hole is drilled in the part that is placed in the ear. The sound from
the hearing aid is routed through this hole. This hole is called the sound channel.
Earpieces can be manufactured from hard or soft material. If necessary, a glass lacquer coating can be applied
(to combat irritation). If this is not adequate, the earpiece can also be silver-plated or gold-plated.
A ventilation channel can also be drilled in the earpiece in order to vent the ear more and/or to decrease the
inconvenience from additional noise or background noise.
The size of this additional channel depends on the shape of the eardrum, the type of hearing aid, and the wishes
of the customer. The hearing aid specialist sends us earprints stating the required type to be manufactured.
Earpieces are available in many versions and materials.
